Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information the Ohio Traffic Cameras: Live Map app (“the app”) uses, why, and who it is shared with. The app is made by WaterDeepDev (“we”, “us”). In short: the app has no accounts, we run no server that stores data about you, and your location and saved cameras stay on your phone. The app shows ads from Google AdMob, which collects some device information as described below.
Information that stays on your device
- Location. If you allow it, the app reads your location only while you are using it, when you tap the locate button or use “Nearby” and “Near me”. It is used on your phone to center the map and sort cameras and alerts by distance. We do not receive, store or share your location, and the app does not read your location in the background.
- Saved cameras, watched roads and settings. These are stored only on your phone. They are removed when you remove them in the app, clear the app’s storage or uninstall the app (Reset settings restores settings but keeps your saved cameras and watched roads).
- Closure alerts. Notifications about road closures and crashes are produced on your phone by comparing public road data with your saved cameras and watched roads. Nothing about your choices is sent to us.
Services the app connects to
To work, the app downloads public data. Like any website, these servers can see your IP address and basic request details (such as the time and the app’s network library) and may keep them in standard server logs.
- Ohio Department of Transportation (OHGO). Camera list, incidents, work zones, signs, road weather station readings and camera images come from OHGO, the public traffic information service of ODOT, and from ODOT camera servers. The app is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by ODOT or OHGO.
- Google Maps. The map is provided by the Google Maps SDK for Android, which processes data under Google’s Privacy Policy.
- Google Play. The app uses Google Play services to offer app updates and to ask, now and then, for a rating. These are handled by Google Play under Google’s Privacy Policy.
- waterdeepdev.com. The camera list, incidents, slowdowns, travel delays, work zones, signs and road weather readings are fetched through a small caching service on our website, which passes OHGO’s public data on unchanged. The app also checks a small file there to find out whether an update is required. Our web host may log these requests (IP address, time) as part of normal server operation. No personal information is sent, and we do not use these logs to identify or track you.
Advertising (Google AdMob)
The app is free and shows ads served by Google AdMob. To serve and measure ads, and to prevent fraud, Google may collect and use your device’s advertising ID, IP address, approximate location derived from the IP address, device and app information, and how you interact with ads. Learn more in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
- Your choices. Where the law requires it (for example in the EEA, the UK, and certain US states), the app asks for your consent or lets you opt out through Google’s consent message. When available, you can change this later in Settings → Ad privacy options.
- You can also reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of personalized ads, in your phone’s Settings → Google → Ads (or Settings → Privacy → Ads).
- “Remove ads for 2 hours” works by watching a rewarded ad; the 2-hour window is kept only on your phone.
What we do not do
- We do not require an account or ask for your name, email address or phone number.
- We do not use analytics or crash-reporting services.
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not receive location, contact, photo or file data from your device.
Permissions
- Location (optional): to show your position and nearby cameras.
- Notifications (optional): for closure and crash alerts you turn on.
- Internet and network state: to download road data and camera images, and to tell you when you are offline.
Data retention and deletion
Because we keep no personal data on our own systems, there is nothing for us to delete on request. To remove everything the app stores on your phone, clear the app’s storage in your phone’s settings or uninstall the app. For data held by Google (ads, maps, Play), use the controls in your Google account or contact Google.
Security
The app uses encrypted (HTTPS) connections to the services above wherever they support it.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example California and other US states, the EEA or the UK), you may have rights to access, delete or opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. Since we hold no personal data ourselves, these rights are mostly exercised through the ad consent choices above and through Google. You are welcome to contact us with any request or question.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
